You could forgive a Northampton County family for feeling nervous about going to bed Thursday night, they're still shaken about what happened before sunrise Thursday. They were terrorized during an hour-long home invasion, robbery. And the men who did it were posing as cops. They had guns, handcuffs and badges, the whole bit.
The family lives only about a quarter of a mile from the Freemansburg Police Department and they're afraid. WFMZ spoke exclusively with the man who came face to face with the fake officers.?
"Once I asked for their badge numbers, their names, they started getting aggressive on me, started pointing the gun at me and into my back a little more."
Too scared to go on camera, the victim recounts the terrifying hour three armed men spent ransacking and robbing his home.
"I'm nervous, shaken up, scared for my family and for my kids."
The ordeal happened around 4:30 Thursday morning as the man was getting ready to leave his Walnut Street home.
"When I came outside to go to work they hit the accelerator and they parked me in, and that's when they came out showing their badge and they drew their guns on me and said 'get against the car, it's the cops, put your hands up.'"
He says the group was driving a dark blue Chevy Impala, and the three Hispanic men who jumped out were dressed in dark colors like undercover officers, had badges around their necks and were all armed.
"Saying 'we're gonna break down your door or you're gonna let us in.'"
Wearing handcuffs, the man led the impersonators inside where his wife and four children were asleep. He called to wake up his wife as he realized the so called cops were really crooks.
"Just little stuff here and there, they didn't have no walkie talkies, they were using latex gloves to go through my stuff."
They tore through the house getting away with $3,500 in cash and some jewelry. One of the thieves was wearing a mask, and they had a driver outside waiting.
The victim believes he was targeted and is now living in fear.
"Shaken up and scared cuz until they grab these guys now I have to wake up every morning thinking that they're outside, or when I go to work, is my wife okay or is my kids fine, so I'm pretty nervous for my family."
No one was hurt in the crime. If you know anything call Freemansburg Police at 610-866-2221.?
